circumferential The circumferential body lift at Salinas Valley Plastic Surgery Associates™ has helped countless men and women put the finishing touches on their weight loss. This complex procedure is performed with the utmost care, precision, and commitment to safety by our double board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Matthew L. Romans and Dr. Jeremy Silk.

What Is a Circumferential Body Lift?

Body lift surgery is an advanced technique used to remove excess hanging skin and improve the overall contour of the body to reveal a new, slimmer shape. This post-weight loss body lift is especially beneficial for men and women who have achieved significant weight loss through bariatric surgery or lifestyle changes but are left with loose, sagging skin. The circumferential body lift is individualized to treat each patient’s specific areas of need. While this particular procedure is primarily focused on the middle part of the body, your full body contouring surgical plan could also include techniques such as the thigh lift, arm lift, or tummy tuck. Additionally, liposuction may be done in conjunction with a body lift to remove any remaining pockets of fat.

Good Candidates for Circumferential Body Lift

The best candidates for a circumferential body lift are healthy non-smokers at a stable weight. Patients who have undergone gastric bypass surgery should consult with their bariatric surgeon to ensure their readiness for this procedure. If you have had gastric bypass surgery, you will be carefully evaluated by our team to ensure that a body lift is the right course of action for you.

The Procedure

A circumferential body lift takes four to six hours, depending on the extent of the surgery. It is performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Romans or Dr. Silk will start by making a circumferential incision around the abdominal area. The incision will extend around the sides to the lower back. Through this incision, your surgeon will remove excess fat and skin. Tissues will be tightened and repositioned, and then stitches are used to close the incision.

The Recovery Process

After the circumferential body lift, you will have to spend a night in the hospital. Multiple drains will be placed for seven to ten days for fluid drainage. During recovery, patients should plan to take time off work and avoid physically demanding activities. Follow-up visits will be necessary to monitor healing and ensure the best results.

Benefits of a Circumferential Body Lift

  • Removes excess skin for smoother contours
  • Tightens and reshapes tissues for a slimmer appearance
  • Improves body proportions and boosts confidence
  • Customizable to include additional procedures like liposuction or a tummy tuck

How Much Does a Circumferential Body Lift Cost?

The cost of a circumferential body lift depends on the complexity of the procedure and whether additional treatments are included. Factors such as the surgeon’s expertise, anesthesia, and facility fees also influence the final price.

Body Lift FAQs

A circumferential body lift is not a weight-loss procedure, but rather a body contouring surgery. While some weight is lost due to the removal of excess skin and fat, the main purpose is to enhance bodily shape and proportions after the patient has already achieved significant weight loss.
You will notice a difference in body shape shortly after the procedure, but swelling and bruising may temporarily obscure the final results. It can take several months for the full effects to become apparent as your body heals.
