Thigh Lift Procedure

A thigh lift, or thighplasty, is used to reshape the thighs to produce smoother skin and better-proportioned lower body contours. If you’re looking to improve the appearance of your thighs following weight loss or aging, consider a thigh lift at Salinas Valley Plastic Surgery Associates™ performed by our double board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Matthew L. Romans and Dr. Jeremy Silk.

What Is a Thigh Lift?

A thigh lift procedure is designed to correct sagging skin and excess fat in the outer (lateral) thighs and/or inner (medial) thighs. By removing redundant skin and fat, a thigh lift helps create a more toned, defined, and proportional appearance in the thighs and lower body.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Thigh Lift?

Ideal patients for a thigh lift are individuals who:

  • Have experienced significant weight loss either from diet and exercise or from bariatric surgery
  • Are in good overall health and at a stable body weight
  • Are non-smokers or are willing to quit smoking before and after the procedure
  • Have realistic expectations regarding their results and the presence of scars

What Happens During Thigh Lift Surgery?

A thigh lift procedure begins with administering anesthesia to ensure your comfort. Next, Dr. Romans or Dr. Silk will make carefully planned incisions along the inner thigh (or outer thigh for a lateral thighplasty).

These incisions allow for the removal of excess skin and fat. In some cases, liposuction may be combined with the procedure to achieve optimal results. After removing the excess tissue, the remaining skin is tightened and re-draped over the newly contoured thighs, and the incisions are closed with sutures.

The Recovery Process

Recovery following a thigh lift requires careful adherence to post-operative instructions. Patients will need to take time off from work and avoid strenuous activities for several weeks. Swelling and bruising are common in the initial recovery period, but should gradually subside.

Patients are encouraged to wear compression garments to help reduce swelling and support the thighs’ new shape. While results will become more visible as swelling decreases, it can take a few months to see the full effects of a thighplasty.

Benefits of a Thigh Lift

  • Improved thigh contour and definition
  • Reduction in excess skin and fat
  • Smoother, firmer skin
  • Enhanced bodily proportions
  • Long-lasting results when paired with a healthy lifestyle
  • Performed by double board-certified plastic surgeons in Salinas and Monterey

How Much Does a Thigh Lift Cost?

The cost of a thigh lift varies depending on factors like the extent of the surgery, the surgeon’s experience, the precise techniques utilized, and whether additional procedures like liposuction are required. During your consultation at Salinas Valley Plastic Surgery Associates™, Dr. Romans or Dr. Silk will provide a personalized price estimate based on your unique needs and goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

The results of a thigh lift are long-lasting, especially when combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise. However, natural aging may affect the results over time.
Yes, thigh lifts result in scars, typically on the inner thighs. Some people heal with better scars than others, but most patients find the improved contours far outweigh the minor scarring. Dr. Romans and Dr. Silk go to great lengths to ensure any necessary marks are as small and unnoticeable as possible.
