A revision breast augmentation at Salinas Valley Plastic Surgery Associates™ is performed to address patient concerns from a prior breast augmentation procedure. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Matthew L. Romans is a master of cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery and can help you finally achieve the look you desire.
Breast augmentation revision surgery is usually sought by patients who have previously undergone breast implant surgery but are either experiencing complications or are unhappy with their results. While initial breast augmentation surgeries have high satisfaction rates, various factors can lead patients to seek a revision, such as:
Good breast augmentation revision patients are generally healthy women who have previously undergone breast implant surgery and are experiencing complications or dissatisfaction with their results. You should be at a stable weight, a non-smoker, have realistic expectations, and be free from any medical conditions that could impair healing.
The day of surgery will begin with the administration of general anesthesia for patient comfort. Incisions will then be made in secluded locations, such as in the breast crease, armpit, and/or areola.
Every revision breast augmentation procedure is different depending on the degree of tissue and implant manipulation required to obtain a well-defined, proportional, and beautiful appearance.
One example is represented in the photos below. These are of a patient who had her original surgery done by a local competitor. Ten years later, she came to Dr. Romans because her breasts were touching in the middle (synmastia). The implants were also too low. This combined deformity made the nipples and areolas look like they were too far to the side and too high on the breasts.

The first picture was just before her surgery to repair the problem. The second picture is a couple of months after the breast augmentation revision surgery.
In this instance, the operation was challenging because the pocket that formed around the implants had to be closed, both between the breasts and below the breasts. The pocket repair was then reinforced with Strattice™ to keep the repair intact. Strattice™ is a porcine skin product specially treated to remove all living cells. This leaves a firm collagen matrix material that the body can grow into, making it part of the body.
Recovery from breast augmentation revision surgery typically takes a couple of weeks before patients can return to light daily activities, with full recovery occurring after approximately two or three months. During the initial recovery period, patients will experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort, which can be managed with prescribed pain medication and proper rest. Patients must wear a surgical bra and follow Dr. Romans’s specific post-operative instructions.
Many factors determine the cost of a revision breast augmentation procedure in Salinas. The price depends on the amount of tissue removed, the time required to perform the surgery, the techniques used, and other key factors.
