Mastopexy surgery, more commonly referred to as a breast lift, is a procedure to lift the breasts for a more youthful, perkier appearance. Your potential breast lift at Salinas Valley Plastic Surgery Associates™ will be performed by either Dr. Matthew L. Romans or Dr. Jeremy Silk, who are both board-certified plastic surgeons.

With age and life experiences such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, or significant weight loss, the breasts can begin to sag and lose their youthful position. A breast lift addresses sagging by removing excess skin and repositioning the breast tissue higher on the chest, resulting in a firmer, more elevated look. This procedure restores perkiness and shape, and can also correct breast asymmetry for a more balanced silhouette.
Breast lift surgery is ideal for patients in good mental and physical health who have realistic expectations and are non-smokers. If you do smoke, you’ll need to be able to quit for at least three months. Women who plan to have more children may want to postpone this procedure, as future pregnancies can affect the results.
An anesthetic is administered to ensure patient comfort. General anesthesia is usually preferred, but in some cases, local anesthesia combined with sedation is acceptable.
Next, the incisions are made. The exact incision route for a breast lift varies depending on the patient’s individual wants and needs. The incision is almost always made around at least the areola. Some techniques may then proceed vertically down toward the crease of the breast and curve around to the side, or add a horizontal incision. In all cases, the areola and nipple remain connected to their original nerve and blood supply.
The skin around the nipple and areola is excised, and they are moved higher to correspond with the new position of the breasts. Finally, the skin is tightened, and the incisions are sealed using stitches.
After your breast lift, you will need about one week of downtime. During this recovery period, you must stay home from work and follow your surgeon’s care directions diligently. You will also need to avoid sports and heavy exercise for several weeks.
Recovery after mastopexy requires proper breast support. Wearing a surgical bra without underwire is recommended to support the healing tissues. This helps to quickly resolve post-surgical swelling and bruising. Once swelling has fully ameliorated, you will be able to see your natural and beautiful results.
The final price of a breast lift depends on how much tissue is removed, the techniques utilized, the type of anesthesia selected, and many other factors. We will calculate the total cost of your treatment plan during your initial consultation.
