Liposuction is one of the most effective ways to eliminate stubborn fat and refine your body’s natural contours. If you have been struggling with fat deposits that simply will not respond to diet and exercise, liposuction at Salinas Valley Plastic Surgery Associates™ may be the solution you have been looking for. Board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Matthew L. Romans and Dr. Jeremy Silk provide expert body contouring care to patients at our two locations in Salinas and Monterey, California.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical body contouring procedure designed to remove localized pockets of fat from specific areas of the body. Rather than addressing weight loss, it targets isolated fat deposits that are resistant to lifestyle changes, helping to create a slimmer, more proportionate silhouette. Liposuction is often combined with other procedures, such as a tummy tuck or a circumferential body lift, to achieve more comprehensive results.

Common treatment areas include:

  • Abdomen and waistline
  • Flanks (love handles)
  • Hips and thighs
  • Upper arms
  • Back and bra rolls

Am I a Good Candidate For Liposuction on the Central Coast?

The best candidates for liposuction are adults who are at or near their goal weight but are struggling to lose the “last mile” of fat tissue. Ideal patients are in good overall health, are non-smokers or are willing to quit before surgery, and have realistic expectations about what the procedure can achieve. Liposuction is not a weight-loss tool — it is best suited for individuals who want to address specific areas of fat that have proven resistant to diet and exercise.

The Procedure

Liposuction at Salinas Valley Plastic Surgery Associates™ begins with the administration of anesthesia to ensure your comfort. Depending on the extent of your treatment, general anesthesia or intravenous sedation may be used.

Once you’re comfortable, Dr. Romans or Dr. Silk will make small, discreet incisions near the targeted treatment areas. A tumescent solution is then introduced to minimize bleeding and make fat removal more precise. Next, a cannula is inserted through the incisions to loosen and suction out unwanted fat deposits. After the desired contour has been achieved, the incisions are carefully closed.

After Liposuction Surgery

Following your procedure, you’ll be fitted with a compression garment to wear over the treated area(s). This supports your new contours and helps reduce swelling during recovery. Most patients can return to light daily activities within a few days, though strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for several weeks.

How Much Does Liposuction Cost?

The cost of liposuction varies depending on the number of treatment areas, the complexity of the procedure, anesthesia fees, and other factors. Because every patient’s needs are unique, the price of your treatment plan will be determined during your personal consultation with Dr. Romans or Dr. Silk, who will provide a thorough breakdown of all associated expenses.

Liposuction FAQs

Liposuction

Liposuction removes a relatively modest amount of fat and is not intended as a weight-loss procedure. Most patients see little change on the scale, but notice a meaningful difference in the shape and proportion of the treated areas.
The fat cells removed by liposuction are gone permanently. However, if a patient gains weight after the procedure, the remaining fat cells can still expand, which is why maintaining a stable, healthy lifestyle is important for preserving results.
